The primary school "IG Kovacic" is a part of Brod
educational school system. It is one of the oldest parts of its history.
School started its work in l924 as the Elementary school just for boys
That is why it was nick-named the "Male school
".During the Second World War the school was named The State Public
Boys School. After the war it became the First Public Elementary School
which lasted for 7 years and was attended by boys` and girls. The girls
got the new school building in l949-50 (present primary school "A.
Mihanovic"). After that our school became the boys school again.
Gradually, it developed into the 8-years primary school. The girls came
back ,a certain number of boys left the former primary school "Nada
Božic" in l959.
SCHOOL BUILDING RECONSTRUCTION
The National Community of Slav. Brod gave the school the present name
after a well-known Croatian poet Ivan Goran Kovacic. The school
building has become unimpropriate for providing school education
because of two war destructions, the earthquake and because of worn-out.
The school was reconstructed thanks to the Minister of Education of the
Republic of Croatia and the County of Brodsko-posavska in l997. In that
way, all that school had contributed in development of Brod school system
and its culture, had been restituted.
